June is Men’s Mental Health Month, and November will bring International Men’s Day.
And we’re already gearing up to see the same copy and paste posts:
“Men have feelings too.”
“Check on your strong friends.”
“Real men cry.”
We get it. But also… can we get something else?
Because the truth is: not every man wants to cry.
Pssst, did you hear what I said? Yes, not every man wants to cry (& it’s not ‘toxic’ to say that).
Some just want to unplug. Some want to talk — but not about their childhood trauma.
Some want to laugh loud, play FIFA, sip on something cold, and not explain what’s “weighing on their soul.”
And that’s okay. (right?)
In fact, that’s necessary. We need more spaces where men can just be.
Be soft or sharp. Be loud or laid-back. Be thinkers, jokers, mentors, or just vibers — without performance or pressure.
Here’s the thing.
We absolutely agree that men should talk. That they should seek help. That mental wellness matters.
But the problem is how quickly everything gets templatized.
Because one-size-fits-all is cheaper. And when something becomes a brand, it stops being personal. We’ve created “men’s wellness” cheat codes — Go to therapy. Journal. Light a candle. Call your dad. All valid.
But what if that’s not your language or vibe? What were men in times past doing? Or was mental health and wellbeing just invented?
What if self-care is watching ball in silence? Or praying without words? Or being around good people who ask nothing of you?
If we really want men to be well, we need to ask better questions.
Not just “what should men do?”
But “what actually helps you feel like yourself again?”
Masculinity is not the problem. Toxicity is.
But it feels like we’ve blurred the lines so much, they’re starting to sound like the same thing.
It’s time to reclaim the beauty of healthy masculinity — Not the version always explaining itself or trying to be “less threatening,” but the kind that simply makes space for truth, strength, silence, softness — whatever feels honest.
That’s what Time Out With the Boys is all about.
No therapy circle. No advice-givers (per se). Just good men, good banter, good energy.
TL;DR
